FILCANS LAUNCH NEW POLITICAL ASSOCIATION WITH POLITICAL PANEL

TORONTO – The Filipino Canadian Political Association is proud to announce their inaugural event “Taking the Leap: Filipino Canadian Leadership in Politics and Community.”

The event will be an exciting opportunity to hear directly from Filipino-Canadians involved in politics, either as candidates or staff, and who have served as senior community leaders.

The panel will feature Grant Gonzales, a government and stakeholder relations professional, Christiana Agustin, who has worked across the federal government in various ministries, Rafael Fabregas who has previously ran for a nomination to be an electoral candidate, Joseph Guiyab a community organizer and leader with extensive political experience and Paul Jonathan Saguil, a Toronto-based lawyer and community
advocate.

“Filipinos, despite making up a sizeable portion of Canada’s population, are
underrepresented in national, provincial and local politics. We are hoping to start a dialogue on how to change that,” said Saguil.

“We have seen some progress in terms of the diversity of elected officials, but there remains so much work to be done. It’s critical to have these discussions, and to start engaging with grassroots community members. The time to elect a Filipino MP is now,” he concluded.
